Why Classic
- No ads, on every plan, including Free. Free Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Outlook.com show ads. Yahoo charges $5/month for Mail Plus to remove them, and Microsoft charges $19.99/year for Microsoft 365 Basic.
- One of the cheapest ad-free email plans: 25 GB for $2/month, $15/year or $36 for 3 years, which is $1/month. Over 3 years that is $36, against about $60 for Microsoft 365 Basic, $144 for Proton Mail Plus (yearly), $180 for Yahoo Mail Plus and $180 for Fastmail Individual. iCloud+ 50 GB ($0.99/month, about $36 over 3 years) and Zoho Mail Lite ($1/month billed yearly, your own domain required) cost about the same. Proton Mail Plus is $4.99/month ($47.88/year), Yahoo Mail Plus is $5/month, Fastmail Individual is $6/month ($60/year), and Tuta Revolutionary is €3/month.
- Standard IMAP and SMTP on the free plan. Use Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or your phone's mail app. Proton needs a paid plan and Proton Mail Bridge for other mail apps, Tuta has no IMAP, and Zoho's free plan leaves out IMAP and POP.
- No phone number to sign up, plus optional two-factor and per-device app passwords.
- Calendar and contacts over CalDAV and CardDAV, web mail at classic.qeyet.com, and an Android app.
Straight talk on storageClassic is not the cheapest per gigabyte. Gmail (15 GB), Outlook.com (15 GB) and Yahoo (20 GB) give more free storage, though with ads, and Microsoft 365 Basic offers a 100 GB ad-free mailbox for $19.99/year.
